Around 12 p.m., on the Scheldt, a navigation boat sank between Merelbeke and La Pinte, reports HLN. There is no indication at this stage why the incident occurred.
The three passengers on the boat were evacuated. A large quantity of fuel oil and several tonnes of stones were nevertheless dumped into the Scheldt.
“There is no oil leak or dangerous substances that were released,” however, the fire chief explained to HLN.
