A riot of illuminations, excitement in the aisles, long queues in front of the checkouts. At first glance, nothing very unusual in supermarkets as the holidays approach. Something has changed, however, in the minds of consumers. In Aiacciu, in the central aisle of the Carrefour de la ringade, Marie parks with her husband in front of the gondola head of the frozen food section. “The prawns have increased a lot”sighs this fifty-year-old. “I don’t want to spend more than 13 or 14 euros per box. And once more, it’s really a luxury because it’s Christmas. But if we need two or three boxes, we’re at 60 euros . It’s too expensive”.

According to France Bleu and the Nielsen IQ institute, an average Christmas shopping basket for six people costs 144.36 euros
