A nativity scene for the museum

They cut bricks from larch bark and use them to create an irregular wall, collecting roots, moss and lichens all summer long. They make small roof shingles from scrap wood and palm trees from the core of pine cones. 20 nativity scenes from all over Vorarlberg have built very different nativity scenes for the Vorarlberg Museum over the last two years. Several Vorarlberg carvers have made nativity figures for it, an exciting collaboration is coming to an end. The museum’s exhibition director, Theresia Anwander, would like to document the lively nativity scene culture for posterity. Oriental or local, root nativity scene or box nativity scene – with each nativity scene, the builder and figure carver tell a little story.
