Riyadh – The premiere of the Turkish Football Super Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was canceled on Friday shortly before the start of the game. As state media reported, the two Istanbul arch-rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce refused to play in the game. The reason is said to be that the Saudi authorities banned the teams from carrying banners or posters with the image of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. An official Saudi Arabian statement on the events was not yet available on Friday evening.
