A burglary took place early Friday evening in a villa located in Menin, on the French border. The burglars tied up the concierge and a cleaning lady before making off with a safe, four valuable paintings and a BMW.

The events took place in a villa on Larstraat in Menen. The owner of the home was traveling, but the 64-year-old concierge and the 35-year-old housekeeper were present inside. Three French-speaking men, wearing hoods, entered the house from the back, gagged the two victims and tied them up with straps.

They searched the house and took away a safe, four valuable paintings and the owner’s BMW“, said Tom Janssens from the West Flanders Public Prosecutor’s Office. The vehicle was later found burned in Estaimpuis.

The investigation is continuing.
