Record-breaking Frosts in St. Petersburg: Historical Temperatures and Forecast

Frosts set new records in St. Petersburg on the morning of January 4. Between 8 and 9 a.m., the air temperature in the city center dropped to -25.3 degrees, the city’s chief weather forecaster, Alexander Kolesov, writes in his telegram channel.

Until today, the coldest January 4 on record was in 1950, when the air temperature dropped to -25.1 degrees.

Now in the city it is -25 degrees, in the surrounding areas in the south and east of the city – -27…-28 degrees. In the northeast of the Leningrad region it is once more down to -36 degrees.

During the day the air temperature will not exceed -20 degrees. A rise to -15 degrees, as well as light snow, are expected by the evening of January 5.
