Counterfeit Notes Seizures on the Rise: Latest Case in Dakar and Thiès

Seizures of counterfeit notes are increasing. After the Dakar Research Brigade which got its hands on 1.5 million euros in black notes, the Diamaguène Sicap Mbao police seized three billion FCFA in counterfeit notes during an investigation carried out between Dakar and Thiès.

At the heart of the traffic is SB Aidara (44 years old) calling himself a marregarding, domiciled in Thiès, his talibé, Mr. Thiandoum (38 years old, domiciled in Sébikotane) and AA Pouye (64 years old, retired domiciled in Mboul and imam of his neighborhood).

The raid carried out in the marregarding’s living room resulted in the discovery of a bag containing packets of black notes in dollar denominations worth three billion CFA francs.

But the suspected duo managed to escape. The sheriff and his chamberlain were arrested. The last named admitted having acquired the black notes from the imam. The search allowed the police to discover an automatic pistol in the marregarding’s wardrobe. Continuing investigations led to the arrest of the third member of the gang.
