Bochum – VfB Stuttgart lost touch with the top duo in the German Bundesliga due to a defeat in its first game of the year. Without top scorer Serhou Guirassy, the Swabians were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of the first half of the season on Sunday. A few hours earlier, Werder Bremen had fought for a 1-1 draw with direct relegation rivals VfL Bochum with a last-minute goal from Niklas Stark.
