Belgian farmers appear to be taking inspiration from Dutch protest movements by flipping street signs. This is one of the techniques used to denounce the new nitrogen policy in Flanders. The problem is that if the signs returned initially were those indicating the names of the towns, farmers gradually attacked those indicating the start of an urban area. These are also the signal for a change of speed because when you enter a built-up area, you enter a 50 km/h zone. Beyond the danger linked to adapting speed, an upturned sign could be used by motorists to contest a speeding trial, for example.
