Austria’s waste management associations and the Austrian Waste Consulting Association are launching a joint information campaign
Vienna (OTS) – In Austria, around 4.7 million tons of municipal waste are generated in private households every year. “A lever for combating waste volumes is knowledge. A lot is happening in the area of waste avoidance and circular economy. It is important to be up to date with developments and legal regulations,” is the managing director of the Austrian Waste Consulting Association (VABÖ), Matthias Neitsch is convincing. Therefore, the Working Group of Austrian Waste Management Associations (Arge AWV) and the VABÖ are launching an information campaign specifically for municipal environmental and waste consultants throughout Austria. The Arge AWV provides 350 specialist books for this purpose.
350 specialist books for 350 waste consultants
“The issues in these areas are becoming increasingly complex. With our joint “Knowhow” campaign, we would like to equip our waste consultants with even more knowledge on the topic of circular economy. “We are providing 350 copies of our “Green Book – Responsible Materials Management” for the training and further education of consultants in Austria,” says Anton Kasser, President of the Arge AWV.
Better informed, better advised
Around 350 municipal environmental and waste consultants take on the task of professionally informing the population, companies and communities regarding waste and recycling management. Environmental and waste advice has made a significant contribution to the high standards of municipal waste management in Austria since the 1980s and is the first point of contact for questions regarding the correct collection, separation and prevention of waste. “Waste consultants reach people directly and at eye level. They play a central role in implementing the goals for a circular economy in Austria. It is therefore particularly important that they are as well informed as possible regarding developments in waste management,” said Neitsch regarding the “Green Book” knowledge transfer campaign.
Project “Knowhow” for professionals
The “Green Book – Responsible Materials Management” provides a comprehensive overview of waste management conditions and developments in Austria in 14 chapters and 430 pages. In addition to the principles of public services, the contribution of waste management to climate protection, and the detailed consideration of selected waste streams, there are numerous contributions from renowned industry experts. The green books can be obtained by waste consultants directly from the respective state waste management associations (Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia, Styria, Burgenland, Lower Austria and Upper Austria). In Vienna, the Arge AWV makes the books available directly.
In the long term, too, there are signs of increased cooperation between Arge AWV and VABÖ: “We will continue to place a particular focus on the topic of training and further education for waste consultants and are already planning the next joint projects,” emphasize Kasser and Neitsch.
