The Spanish government will ban flavorings in all tobacco derivatives, and in particular in heating tobacco which will be subject to the same rules as normal cigarettes, the Minister of Health announced on Tuesday.

“Flavors in tobacco-derived products (filters, cigarette paper, capsules, etc.) are now prohibited” and “heated tobacco will be subject to the same regulation as conventional tobacco,” wrote on the social network Minister of Health Mónica García, at the end of the council of ministers.

Flavored cigarettes have in fact been banned throughout the European Union since 2020.

“The sale of heating tobacco which contains flavorings is therefore now prohibited, and it becomes obligatory to indicate on the label that this product is harmful to health,” specifies a press release from the ministry.

This measure will come into force within three months following its publication in the official journal on Wednesday.
