by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

One hundred and 56 ravines of small, medium and large proportions are cataloged in the province of Malanje and put several social infrastructures at risk, revealed yesterday by the director of the Provincial Office of Infrastructures and Technical Services, Duarte Ginga.

The person in charge explained, during a visit by the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Franco Mufinda, to the ravines that progress in the municipality of Massango, that despite the stagnation of some, the number of ravines has increased, due to the floods that the region has recorded in recent times.

Duarte Ginga informed, according to Angop, that intervention will soon begin in five ravines that are on the verge of cutting the inter-municipal road connection and destroying water systems and homes in the municipalities of Massango, Malanje and Marimba.

In turn, the municipal administrator of Massango, Ânsia Salatiel, said that, at this time, 10 large ravines are marked in the district and, if not intervened, they might prevent access to the municipal headquarters and the communes of Quinguengue and Quihuhu, in addition to causing the collapse of the water system built under Chinese financing. Due to the ravines and the poor condition of the road, the Administration needed to acquire a Kamaz vehicle to transport goods to the two communes.
