Alison Maes is Héléna’s cousin. “Our mothers are sisters, specifies the young lady. As cousins, we don’t see each other every week with Héléna but as our families are very close-knit, we regularly spend little evenings between us. We also saw each other around mid-September, a few days before she entered the castle. But nothing leaked out, she didn’t tell us anything, she kept the secret very well.”
So you discovered it on air during the presentation of the candidates?
The day before, my mom sent me a message telling me to absolutely watch Star Ac. Since my mom isn’t much of a reality TV watcher, I found it weird. But what a nice surprise to then discover Héléna on stage. Héléna being shy, I never thought I would see her in this type of show.
Apart from her brother’s wedding, I had never heard her sing but when she sang for the first time on the Star Ac stage, I said to myself: wow, we had a gem and we didn’t know it. Since then, she has amazed me, amazed me, and I didn’t know she had such a beautiful voice.
Did the Héléna who entered the castle remain the same ten weeks later?
On a human level, it has not changed. She remained the same as in everyday life, friendly, super humble and never wanting to put herself in front of others. She has her own character but remains attentive and super caring. On the other hand, how has she changed and progressed as an artist? She, who was withdrawn at the start, gained confidence in herself and she opened up more and more. Her mother Brigitte told me once more recently that she found her fulfilled.
For the Belgian who had never sung, the challenge was huge and her success all the more beautiful…
Héléna plays the piano but that’s it and it was indeed more complicated for her than for the others, even if her best friends knew that she has a magnificent voice. They were also the ones who pushed her to register.
As a close family, how do you experience their adventure from a distance?
I don’t miss a daily or a prime time on television, I record when I’m not there, and we are all super proud and behind her. I had the chance to attend a live prime two weeks ago and it was a superb and memorable evening. I saw a lot of goodwill between families and if the candidates get along well with each other, this is also the case with the families. The teachers were also there for us.
But not Helena…
The students are cut off from the world and the rules are super strict. We shouted things at him and made many signs but we mightn’t talk to him.
Héléna will be in the semi-final once morest Pierre on Saturday evening before a possible final a week later. Can she win Star Ac?

Three weeks ago, a Team Héléna was created on Facebook and the milestone of 25,000 members has just been exceeded, a third of which are French.
It was two French women who created the group, like what had already been done for other students in the past. There are four Belgians who have been added as administrators of the group and given the requests for membership that are pouring in, it’s a lot of work. The idea of the Team is to provide as much information as possible regarding Héléna and Star Ac and to announce the many means put in place to support her and vote for her. A prize pool has also been set up with a channel which leads to French voters.
