Angie Zhao, chairman and CEO of Foremost Group, an American shipping company, unfortunately drowned in a ranch in central Texas on February 11. The Blanco County police in Texas are currently investigating the incident. But police have refused to provide basic information or records.

The local media “Austin American-Statesman” reported on Saturday (February 24) that it took nearly an hour of efforts by the sheriff, firefighters and other volunteers to pull Anji Zhao out of the car.

The three-page report was written by Fire Lieutenant Royce Penshorn of Blanco County Emergency Services District 2. The report describes the rescue incident in detail.

It was midnight, and Zhao Anji’s car sank into the pond. The surrounding environment made the rescue operation very complicated and difficult.

It is reported that she died when rescuers climbed on top of the submerged vehicle and tried to break the window and pull her out.

It took rescuers an hour to break the car window and pull the person out

The report seen by The Epoch Times shows that firefighters from Emergency Services District 2 in downtown Blanco rushed to the scene following midnight. They arrived at 12:28 a.m. on February 11, regarding 27 hours following receiving the call. minutes later.

They arrived to support the emergency services area 1 water rescue operation.

According to a previous statement from District 1 Emergency Center (EMS) Chief Benjamin Oakley, at 12:03 a.m. on February 11, they received a water rescue call from a ranch. About nine minutes later, the district Rescue workers arrived at the scene.

“Officers were in the water, standing where they believed a vehicle was, trying to make contact with the possible victim inside the vehicle,” Penshawn wrote in the report.

During this time, a first responder reported to him that a vehicle was “completely submerged” with a person inside.

As rescue efforts continued, two team members searched the pond’s shores, trying to find other victims. Rescue workers also set up scene lighting around the area.

At this time, the command headquarters contacted the dispatch team and requested support from the diving team, but there was no diving team available. More fire trucks and ambulances later arrived.

Sean Peng said in the report that the officers stayed in the water and tried to rescue Anji Zhao. A tow truck also arrived at the scene and tried to pull Zhao’s vehicle out, but failed because it was too far away.

Immediately followingwards, two police officers stood on the roof of the submerged car and asked to use tools to break the car windows. A first responder and a firefighter entered the vehicle with tools in the water. They used “a variety of tools” to gain access to the vehicle, including a pole and a crowbar. This is a versatile tool that firefighters use to force entry.

Oakley confirmed that rescuers pulled the person out of the car around 12:56 a.m. Subsequently, emergency personnel performed “advanced life support” for 43 minutes to try to restore her heartbeat.

Anji Zhao was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said. Rescue workers then carried out on-site finishing work. The entire rescue process lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Oakley said no emergency response agency in Blanco County has a dive team, so they call on teams in neighboring Hays and Travis counties when needed. However, such teams are usually responsible for recovering bodies rather than participating in rescue operations.

Confirm the name of the ranch where Zhao Anji died

According to a firefighter report seen by The Epoch Times, it was confirmed that the ranch where Zhao Anji died was named JW Ranch (also called JWCB Ranch) and was located at 101 Schneider Lane, Johnson City.

According to public information obtained by The Epoch Times, the ranch is owned by a trust company with a registered address in Chicago. It is the same registered address as Breyer Capital, owned by Jim Breyer, Angie Zhao’s husband.

James Breyer is an American venture capitalist and the founder and CEO of Breyer Capital, which is headquartered in Austin. Breyer is also a minority owner of the Boston Celtics, according to the Breyer Capital website.

The Foremost Group is headquartered in New York and was founded by Anji Zhao’s father, Zhao Xicheng. Angie Zhao is the youngest of the six daughters of the Zhao family. She is the sister of former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is Angie Zhao’s brother-in-law.

Anji Zhao joined Foremost in 1996 and has taken over the leadership of the company since 2018. She was only 50 years old when she died.
