(Keystone-ATS) A tanker truck carrying a large quantity of highly flammable liquids broke down and suffered a lot of smoke on Thursday around 9:30 a.m. in the Vue-des-Alpes tunnel (NE). The structure was closed to traffic until 1:20 p.m.

No one was injured, said the Neuchâtel cantonal police early in the evening. Questioned by the Keystone-ATS agency, she specified that the truck was transporting fuel oil.

The Emergency Center was alerted in the morning regarding the start of a fire coming from a tanker truck stopped in the tunnel. The driver “immediately hit fire extinguishers to contain the start of the fire,” the press release specifies.

Subsequently, the Neuchâtel Mountains Fire and Rescue Service and the Neuchâtel Protection and Security Service were able to quickly bring the disaster under control.

The incident did not cause any significant damage to infrastructure.
