The spectacular night that will open the three-day climax of the Patras Carnival (Friday 15 March at 19.00) will have the strong stamp of the illuminated carnival floats of the Municipality of Patras that will parade for the first time through the main streets of Patras accompanied by the Municipal Music of Municipality of Patras and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Polyphonic Choir of Patras.
During their stop for a few minutes around the perimeter of George I Square, the floats will attract the attention and admiration of young and old who will enjoy them up close and have their photos taken with them,
This year’s King Carnival in the great celebration of Patras will be the “Carnival of Globalization” playing a game of chess with the countries of the world.
The Queen’s float with a marine theme (Mermaid drawn by a horsefish and a shell) and will welcome the 2024 Patrine Carnival Queen Georgia Sakka, the “Propompos” who will open the parades (an artistic float with a two-headed carnival figure with a uniform clown hat flanked by dancers), the Flower float (a tropical parrot with 30,000 carnations heralding Spring), the ‘Smile’ float inspired by the old silent cinema with carnival heroes Charlot and Chondro-Ligno, the ‘Dancers of the Circus” (artistic float with jugglers and dancers) and John Lennon with the children of flowers and peace adapted to the topicality of the war in Palestine, is the main sequence of the Carnival King that will captivate the eyes.
This year, 15 carnival floats will be paraded, creations of the Carnival Workshop of the Municipality of Patreon (responsible: Nikos Livanis), of which 7 are new, with strong artistic or satirical elements, anti-war highly topical messages. Among them are the new floats of the Children’s Carnival this year: “Journey with imagination” and “Carnival Baby”.
The rest of the floats are the older ones from the Children’s Carnival: “Carousel”, “Moon”, “Dog”, “Centipede”, “Inguana” and “Circus”.
It will be followed by the big open concert of the internationally famous Shantel “The Disco Partizani Years!” which from the stage of Georgiou 1 square at 21.30 with the participation of Bucovina Club Soundsystem, Koza Mostra and dj Spery will offer the world an unrepeatable Dionysian party with music from the Balkans, which will look like something out of an Emir Kustouritsa movie.
