2024-03-17 00:42:42

The Moroccan government has decided, on a proposal from the Minister of Economy and Finance and following consultation with the Minister of the Interior, to expropriate real estate belonging to Algeria, located in Rabat.

The decision, published in the Official Bulletin of March 13, 2024, should allow the extension of the central headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Expropriation procedures had already been initiated once morest three properties, cited in the BO.

The expropriation of this real estate is justified by “the public utility which requires the extension of administrative buildings for the benefit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, in accordance with Law No. 81-7 of April 16, 1982.

Algeria’s representatives have two months to present their remarks or appeal to the courts.

On August 21, 2021, Algeria severed its diplomatic relations with Morocco. Since then, it has kept its consulate in Casablanca open.
