Last year, Yoshino cherry trees were observed to be in full bloom at 42 meteorological observatories, including Yamagata, and in full bloom at 24 meteorological observatories, including Sendai, by March 31st, and this year, the blooms are later than last year in each location.

This year, while mid-February was the warmest on record, there were many days with lower-than-normal temperatures from late February to early March. Although there was a brief period of high temperatures in mid-March, the temperature was once more lower than normal just before flowering, which appears to have delayed flowering.

Flowering has begun and is expected to reach full bloom quickly
