The artist Xavier Richard, aka El Globos, originally from Carantec (Finistère), died Monday April 8, 2024, at the age of 60. He was particularly known for having worked, for many years, on the posters and decorations for the Les Vieilles Charrues festival. It was also he who created the famous bigoudène, emblem of the À l’aise Breizh brand.

“He was still working here last week”
Erwann Créac’h, founder of the brand, says: “We met thanks to the Morlais Tamaris festival. In 1998, he created the bigoudène, I was looking for something to represent the À l’aise Breizh brand, and it became an emblem of Brittany. He created it very quickly, in a few days. He was a fast, very intelligent person. he recalls. It describes a man “who always had a smile, with the joy of living, a lot of kindness. Apart from his immense talent for drawing, this is also what characterized him.”

For Jean-Jacques Toux, programmer of Vieilles Charrues, Xavier Richard was a “an essential figure of the festival. He was also the cousin of Jean-Philippe Quignon, who was co-programmer of Vieilles Charrues. When the Tamaris festival stopped in Morlaix, he came to Carhaix for the Vieilles Charrues. He was our chief illustrator for several years. »
“Extreme kindness”
Just like Erwann Créac’h, he speaks of a man “colorful, so funny, but without making fun. He was extremely kind. When he drew, he had a real signature. It was a singular and funny stroke of the pencil,” he said. In recent years, even if he no longer created the festival posters, “he came as a guest. His death is a great sadness for the Charrues family,” he concludes.
