The musical “Six” at the Politeama Rossetti in Trieste

The Trieste-based Politeama Rossetti happily continues in its line of bringing musicals directly from London to Italy, in the original version: here is “Six”, with the wives of Henry VIII on stage. In Brescia and Bergamo, like every spring, the famous Piano Festival is renewed, founded in honor of the great Brescian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Decisive change of atmosphere in Turin, with the 12th edition of the Jazz Festival, ten days and 57 concerts.

Trieste

From 24 to 28 April at the Politeama Rossetti the musical “Six” will have its Italian and exclusive national premiere, in English with surtitles. Written together by the young Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the show is still on stage both in London and New York, where it was awarded for its music. Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr: the six wives of Henry VIII leave school textbooks and enter a musical. The show is constructed like a concert because the six queens make up a girl band: they compete – singing regarding their marital misfortunes – to obtain the role of soloist of the group. An honor that only belongs to the one who has endured the most trouble from her common husband.

Brescia and Bergamo

From 26 April to 15 June the 61st edition of the Piano Festival. On the 29th the Scala Philharmonic Orchestra arrives at the Teatro Grande in Brescia conducted by Vasilij Petrenko, director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with the young pianist Haochen Zhang, winner of the Van Cliburn Competition; Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky are on the programme. It will be a May dotted with great pianists, with the returns of Emanuel Ax, Grigory Sokolov, Arcadi Volodos and the presence of important performers such as Pietro De Maria, Benedetto Lupo, Andrea Lucchesini, among numerous others.

Torino

From 22 to 30 April the 12th edition of the Torino Jazz Festival, 104 events including 57 concerts, with 280 musicians in 73 venues in the city. Here are the great figures of the world scene, including Dave Holland (who opens on the 22nd at the Teatro Alfieri), Christian McBride, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, John Zorn and Roscoe Mitchell, Paolo Fresu, Fatoumata Diawara, Mats Gustafsson, Steve Lehman, Marta Warelis, Sakina Abdou, Alexander Hawkins, Matthew Wright.
