G. Landsbergis hopes to provide details on the situation of E. Bajarūnas at the beginning of next week

“Details regarding the ambassador in London will be available, I want to believe, at the beginning of next week. We still need a few days to finally agree on the form,” the minister told the LRT program “Dienos Tema” on Friday.

A little earlier on Friday, following meeting with the head of the country Gitanas Nausėda for the third time regarding the appointment of ambassadors, G. Landsbergis said that an agreement was found “in full” – both regarding E. Bajarūnas and the appointment of the ambassador to Poland, as well as other currently frozen representatives.

When asked if he had to compromise when negotiating with the president, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy said that his experience was “definitely not like that”.

“My experience working with the president, especially in the cases of appointing ambassadors, as many as there were during those three and a bit years, was basically within the framework of the Constitution. “Probably, only the last case, namely this one, which received the greatest public attention, came out of such a common traditional understanding of how it should be done,” said the minister.

Until now, the Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have not succeeded in finding a consensus on the appointment of 13 ambassadors, and the tension was deepened by the differing positions regarding E. Bajarūnas.

Last year, this diplomat was accused of mobbing by embassy employees, so G. Landsbergis summoned him to Vilnius for consultations in October and urged him to resign from his position. The ambassador himself does not agree with the accusations.

At that time, the Presidency took the position that an independent investigation should be conducted into the ambassador’s behavior.

Discussions regarding the future of E. Bajarūnas are also fueled by the decision of the Supreme Official Ethics Commission regarding the violation of the law by visiting a musical together with the president. Both the diplomat and G. Nausėda disagree with this.
