Bamba Sissoko started boxing at 15. Vice-champion of France, already winner of the Belts and other tournaments, the future looks bright for this 26-year-old boxer.
You already fought yesterday. How did it happen?
I fought once morest a Swiss. I started this first round where I was really in the observation phase. The problem is that I was dominated and instead of reacting, I let him box. Afterwards, I started to put more pressure on him, it was already more balanced, because he had given a lot of energy. By the third round, he was out of breath. It seems to me that he only hit me four times. He started well, but I caught up with him and even dominated him. Unfortunately, I lost. I don’t understand the referees’ decision, but that’s also sport.
This is not your first participation. What do you think of the Belts?
Exactly, I’m fighting there for the third time. Belts are monstrous! This is the best boxing tournament for me. I won on my first participation. For the last two, I don’t know what happened with the judges’ decision… I can’t see myself losing! I’m very fair play though, I know how to recognize when I’m losing. But it happens!
“I will come back stronger”
Compared to this victory in 2022, does this add extra pressure to you for the tournaments that followed?
No way. The level is getting higher and higher and I’m preparing for it. It’s the biggest amateur boxing tournament, I’m making a lot of physical and mental preparations accordingly. I gave everything so I have no regrets. Unfortunately, the result is not in my favor. I will come back stronger. In any case, I take advantage of the present moment, I give everything. I had moments of glory, others where I experienced failure…
You will be in Marianne D’Antuono’s camp. What is your relationship with this boxer?
She’s a boxer from my club. She was a finalist in the French championships this year and, this evening, she fights in the semi-final once morest a Swede. We do everything together! We are the boxers with the most experience in our club.
Is it important for you to be part of his camp?
We know each other very well. I know her way of boxing and she knows mine, so we support each other.
Unfortunately, The Belts stops here for you. What’s next for the rest of the season?
I hope that my transition to professional will go as smoothly as possible. I wish myself an equally good career, with more titles, more victories. I’m still young, so I want to fight. This is my passion !
Do you plan to move on to the professionals as soon as possible or continue to gain experience as an amateur?
I would like to continue as quickly as possible. I am already 100% invested. I tell myself that it’s not a bad thing not to waste time.
