Earlier this year, Kennedy stood up and explained how a parasite had eaten parts of the brain. On Sunday he made another revelation, this time a story about how he dumped a dead bear cub.
In a three-minute video on social media, he describes how during a trip upstate New York in 2014, he and some friends saw a vehicle hit a six-month-old black bear. The bear died.
Kennedy’s first thought was that here was free meat to be had. He put the bear carcass in his car. In the video, the 70-year-old explains that this is legal in the state.
The outing with his friends took longer than expected, and the delay meant that he could not take the bear to his home in Westchester. Kennedy was about to catch a plane.
– The bear was in my car and I didn’t want to leave it in the car, because that would be wrong, says Kennedy.
After brainstorming, they brought the carcass to Central Park and placed it under an old bicycle that Kennedy had in his car. Kennedy says they wanted to make it look like a bicyclist had run over the bear.
The discovery of the dead bear was big news in its day.
– Then I thought: Oh my God, what have I done?, says Kennedy, and adds:
– I was worried because the bike was covered with my fingerprints.
Passers-by found the bear in October 2014 and the case ended up in the news, but it is only now that Kennedy’s role has become known.
