The Grand Imam of Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar, condemned the assassination that killed the Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh in Teheran, Iran. He offered his condolences on Haniyeh’s death.
He also strongly condemned the Israeli attack. Nasaruddin emphasized that the Istiqlal Mosque consistently voiced the independence of the Palestinian people.
“As the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, I am always committed to how the Palestinian people can enjoy independence, we can bring it to the surface so that the whole world will be concerned about what our brothers and sisters in Palestine are experiencing,” said Nasaruddin in his official statement in Jakarta, Friday (2/7).
He invited all the congregation of the Istiqlal Mosque, the Indonesian people and all mosques in Indonesia to perform the Ghaib Prayer after Friday Prayer. “As the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque and the Palestinian Embassy, I invite all Muslims and Muslimahs and national figures to participate in performing the ghaib prayer, on the Main Floor of the Istiqlal Mosque, as a form of our concern for a martyr like Ismail Abdul Salam Ahmad Haniyyah and other Palestinian fighters,” he said.
He invited all mosques in Indonesia and the Indonesian people to perform Ghaib prayers for Haniyeh and other Palestinian fighters.
“He (Haniyeh) risked everything for the freedom of his country”, concluded the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque.
Hamas and Iran announced the killing of Haniyeh, Wednesday (31/1) early in the morning, in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his residence in Tehran. The attack occurred one day after he attended the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Although Israel has remained silent on Haniyeh’s death, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hinted at Tel Aviv’s involvement in the murder. (I-2)
