A missile fired from Israel’s Iron Dome air defense system hit an Israeli Navy boat, killing one Navy officer.
The Israeli military announced Sunday that an officer aboard the Devora, Third Petty Officer David Moshe Ben Shatrit, was killed by an Iron Dome interceptor that was fired to shoot down a drone in the vicinity of the plane.
About three to four kilometers off the coast near the Israel-Lebanon border, the Doora ship was deployed to protect the coast from attack and help identify Hezbollah threats.
The IDF said it was clear the drone had not targeted Dvora before it was shot down.

Afterward, Ben Shatrit was taken ashore in a small speed boat where he was placed in an ambulance and brought to Naharia Medical Center.
He was pronounced dead after efforts to revive him failed.
