After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.
What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?
Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.
“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”
“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”
*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

How do you think the inclusion of guest performers each night enhances the audience’s experience of the show?
**Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou: The Creative Force Behind “Agoramana”**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Aphrodite! After a successful run in Athens, ”Agoramana” is set to make its debut in Patras. What can audiences expect from this performance?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you for having me! “Agoramana” is a deeply personal exploration of motherhood and societal expectations. Audiences can expect a blend of stand-up comedy, documentary storytelling, and musical theater that tackles challenging themes. The storyline follows a new mother who grapples with the overwhelming pressures of parenting amidst constant societal scrutiny. It raises significant questions: Is she alone in her struggles? Does becoming a mother define her worth? And how does this narrative around family happiness affect us all?
**Editor:** Sounds intriguing! The show delves into heavy topics, including gender roles and violence against women. How have you approached these sensitive subjects?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** It’s crucial for us to treat these topics with respect and honesty. We want to shine a light on systemic issues that affect many, regardless of gender. Through humor and relatable storytelling, we hope to encourage dialog and self-reflection among our audience. The characters share their frustrations and joys in a way that resonates, helping to challenge outdated stereotypes.
**Editor:** You mentioned that each performance features a different guest integrating into the stage action. How does this add to the experience?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Having a guest each night brings a fresh perspective and energy to the show. Their unique experiences enrich the narrative and resonate differently with the audience. It’s a wonderful way to foster a sense of community and dialog, as each guest contributes their own stories that connect with the themes presented in “Agoramana.”
**Editor:** What do you hope audiences take away from this performance?
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope they leave feeling seen and heard. Parenting can be incredibly isolating, and many struggle with the expectations placed on them. We want to encourage people to ask questions about societal norms and empower them to embrace their experiences, whatever they may be. It’s about fostering a sense of solidarity among all parents and breaking down the stigma around conversations on motherhood.
**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite! We’re looking forward to the performance in Patras. It sounds like it will be a powerful experience.
**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! I can’t wait for everyone to see it and share their thoughts. It’s going to be a special show!
