Latvenergo Doubles Down on Sustainable Energy, Launches Its First Hybrid Solar Park

Leading Baltic energy provider Latvenergo has significantly expanded its renewable energy portfolio with the opening of 15 new solar parks, surpassing initial targets. The company is pushing further towards a green energy future with the launch of the Priekule Solarpower Station, the first project slated to become a hybrid power plant.

"This year, 2024, marks a significant milestone for us and our commitment to renewable energy. Our solar power station production capacity skyrocketed, generating twelve times more electricity compared to last year" shared Kaspars Nowitzkis, Director of Wind and Solar Park Development at Latvenergo

This year, JSC “Latvenergo” solar power stations produced 36 GWh electricity. The company paired regional expansion with an

The Priekule Solar Power Station, located in Latvia’s south, is a key step in Latvenergo’s ambitions to usher in a new era for renewable energy, one where solar energy is stored to ensure constant energy production even in seasons when natural sunlight may be limited.

"Solar parks differ not only by geographical location; they also demand specific plans and solutions tailored to the specific geology, terrain, and infrastructure of each individual site," shared Nowitzkis, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the project. “Before construction began,

## Latvenergo Lights ⁢the Way with First Hybrid⁤ Solar Park

**Host:** Welcome back to the‍ show. ⁣Joining us today‍ is Kaspars Nowitzkis, Director ‍of Wind and Solar Parks⁣ at‍ Latvenergo, to ⁤discuss their ambitious expansion into renewable energy. Kaspars, thanks for being here!

**Kaspars:** Thanks for having me.

**Host:** Let’s jump right in. Latvenergo just opened⁣ 15 new ⁣solar ⁤parks⁢ this year, and you’re‍ touting a twelvefold increase in solar power ⁤generation compared to last year. What’s driving this massive investment in solar energy?

**Kaspars:** We at Latvenergo are ‍deeply committed⁤ to a sustainable ‌energy future for the Baltic region.‌ [[1](https://latvenergo.lv/en/pazinojumi/zina/latvenergo-solar-park-capacity-be-expanded)]outlines our strategy of diversifying our energy portfolio, securing long-term value, and reducing electricity prices for consumers. Solar power is a key part⁣ of achieving these goals.

**Host:** And you’re⁣ not ⁢stopping⁢ there.⁢ You ⁣also mentioned‍ the Priekule Solarpower Station, which is set to become a ‌hybrid power plant. Can you tell us ‍more about that?

**Kaspars:** Absolutely. The Priekule Solarpower ⁣Station is a truly innovative project. We’re ⁢pioneering a hybrid ⁣model⁤ by combining solar power with other renewable sources, like wind. This allows us to optimize energy production, making it even more ⁢reliable and efficient.

⁢**Host:** That’s fascinating. When can we expect this hybrid system to be fully operational?

**Kaspars:** We’re aiming to have‍ the hybrid system at Priekule up ‍and running by [Insert target date, if available].

**Host:** Exciting news indeed! Kaspars, thank you for sharing ⁤these‌ insights ⁤into Latvenergo’s ambitious green energy journey.

**Kaspars:** It was⁤ a pleasure to be‌ here.
