Free Prostate Cancer Screenings Offer Hope and Early Detection
A week-long prostate cancer screening event recently took place, offering free consultations to men over 45 years old. A total of 165 men participated in the screenings, resulting in 5 suspected cases of cancer. Further medical investigations are now underway for these individuals.
Reaching Those Most in Need
The initiative went beyond reaching just the general public and extended its hand to a vulnerable population: homeless men. Thirteen men residing at the local Night Shelter, managed by the compassionate Maltese Aid Service, were included in the screenings.
“The screening program for prostate cancer has been completed, 165 people benefited from the medical examination,” said representatives from the organizing medical unit. “Result: 5 suspected cases of prostate cancer, further investigations and examinations are ongoing. At the same time, kidney diseases were detected in a timely manner. Thanks to the colleagues from the Night Asylum in Sfântu Gheorghe, who participated in the program; 13 homeless men were screened. This proves that together we can reach even the most vulnerable and help them stay healthy (…) We are delighted that every year more and more people are getting screened, and this proves that people are becoming more aware.”
Proactive Steps Towards Health
Organized specifically for men over 45 who hadn’t previously encountered urological issues, the free screenings aimed to catch potential health concerns early. Prostate cancer, the second most common cancer diagnosed after lung cancer in men over 50, often presents without noticeable symptoms in its initial stages.
