Alleged Bribery Case: KPK Searches Residence of Former Presidential Advisory Council Member

The Corruption‌ Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a ⁣search at the⁢ residence of Djan Faridz, a‌ former member of the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres), located on Jalan Borobudur, menteng,⁢ Central Jakarta, early Thursday morning (January 23). This raid is directly linked to the ongoing inquiry into allegations of bribery⁣ surrounding‌ the appointment of interim replacements (PAW)‍ for members of the Indonesian‍ House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2019-2024 period.

The ⁣KPK is ⁢focusing on a case involving Harun Masiku, a former legislative candidate from the indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP)⁣ in the 2019 elections. Masiku is ⁣suspected of bribing former General Election Commission (KPU) ⁤Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan to secure his appointment as a DPR member through the PAW mechanism.

The commission‌ reportedly seized three suitcases from Faridz’s residence, suspected of containing evidence related to⁢ the case.‌ Though, ⁣an official statement regarding the specific nature of the discovered evidence remains pending.

This investigation has implicated several prominent figures ⁤within the PDIP, ‍including Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto and party advocate Donny Tri ⁣Istiqomah. They were named ⁤as suspects late last year for their alleged involvement in bribing setiawan to benefit Masiku’s PAW candidacy.

hasto is also accused of‌ arranging the PAW appointment of Maria Lestari, a member of DPR⁤ for Electoral District 1 of West Kalimantan (Kalbar), alongside obstruction of justice charges.

Hasto underwent initial questioning as a suspect on Monday (January 13) but was not⁣ immediately detained. Investigators have seized documents, electronic evidence, and gathered statements⁣ from witnesses during their⁤ probe.

Furthermore, KPK‍ investigators conducted searches at two of Hasto’s residences in Kebagusan,⁣ South Jakarta, and the Villa Taman⁤ Kartini Housing Complex in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday (January 7).A collection of evidence, including letters ⁤and notes, ⁣was confiscated from these locations.

The KPK’s ongoing investigation into this complex bribery⁤ case continues to unfold, ‍revealing a potential web of corruption within Indonesia’s political landscape.

How does the KPK plan to investigate the alleged involvement of prominent PDIP figures⁣ in this case?
