In a critically important boost to Bulgaria’s defense capabilities,the nation has officially received its first F-16 Block 70 fighter jets at Lockheed Martin’s facility in Greenville,South Carolina. This momentous event marks a ‌pivotal step in strengthening Bulgaria’s strategic partnership with the United ⁤States and ‍solidifying its position within NATO and ⁤EU alliances.

Bulgaria’s acquisition of these advanced ⁢fighter jets is part of a two-phase project,with 16 F-16 Block 70 aircraft​ contracted in 2019 and 2022. Two multi-purpose fighter jets are‌ scheduled to arrive in April ⁣2023, ‌followed by six more ‌by the end of​ 2025. The remaining eight aircraft are ‍expected to ​be delivered by the end of 2027.

A​ total of 32 pilots will receive ‍specialized instruction in the United States, while the​ training of the ⁣engineering staff is already underway, with plans to train over 100 specialists.
