Joan Corbett (née Sheahan), a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Cork University Hospital (CUH). Joan, hailing from Pike cross, Ballyhea, Charleville, and formerly of Glenquinn Strand, Tournafulla, left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her.
Predeceased by her parents, Jim and Kathleen, her brother Sean, and sister Breda, Joan was the cherished wife of the late Michael and a devoted mother to Michael (Mourneabbey), Seamus, and Tom.
“Joan’s memory will be dearly treasured by her loving family,” shared a family spokesperson. “She was a source of unwavering love, support, and kindness to all who were blessed enough to know her.” Her family includes her daughters-in-law Maria, Anita, and Maggie, her cherished grandchildren Conor, Michael Jnr., Cathal, Conall, Helena, Paddy, Tom Jnr., and Jack, her brother Paddy, sisters Mary Ita and Noreen, brother-in-law Mike, sister-in-law Eileen, nephews, nieces, carers, and friends.
A Celebration of Life
Joan’s remains will repose in Hawe – O’Keeffe’s Funeral Home in Charleville on Monday evening from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by prayers. On Tuesday morning, Joan’s remains will be received into St. Mary’s Church, Ballyhea, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Her final resting place will be the adjoining cemetery.

“Mom was the heart of our family,” Michael began,his voice filled with warmth. “She was always there for us, whether it was a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand. Her presence brought joy and laughter to every room she entered.”
Joan was deeply involved in her community, especially St. Mary’s Church in ballyhea. She cherished the connections she made there, and those who knew her spoke of her kindness and generosity.
What qualities do you think made your mother so special?
“Mom had this unbelievable ability to make everyone feel loved and valued. She was a natural caregiver, always putting the needs of others before her own. I remember growing up, she always made time for us, even when she was busy with her own commitments. She instilled in us strong values of family, faith, and community.”
How would you like peopel to remember your mother?
“I would like people to remember Mom for her warmth, her kindness, and her unwavering love. She was a truly special woman, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
