Veteran competitor Anastasia Kuzminova, a three-time Olympic medalist, expressed her disappointment despite a commendable effort.

Kuzmin’s emotions Overwhelmed

Kuzminova, the oldest biathlete competing in the prestigious tournament, entered the race with aspirations for a strong result. “Before the race, I thoght that every shift would be good, but since I moved just one place, I am not satisfied.I couldn’t get to the top thirty. Which I am very disappointed. Today it was possible to race beautifully,” she admitted, reflecting on her performance.

Despite managing the early stages effectively and climbing 10 positions, Kuzminova faltered at the final shooting stage, missing two crucial targets. This setback hampered her momentum, preventing her from accelerating in the last round and ultimately falling short of her desired outcome.

“I know I must not be disappointed. I know I have a good potential. I don’t miss the last round. Though, there would be no two mistakes at the last shooting. I guess I wanted to move even more ahead. I saw that even experienced and strong competitors were shooting for 4 and 5 today. It is obvious that the altitude is taking strength. you are running out of the last shooting,” she added, acknowledging the challenging conditions of the race.

Bátovská Fialková’s Performance

Simultaneously occurring, Bátovská Fialková, another Slovak competitor, faced a challenging race, ultimately finishing beyond the top 30. Even though she appeared confident entering the competition, a disappointing performance in the penalty rounds significantly impacted her overall result.

“After the penalty rounds my motivation has fallen, so I will not evaluate my running performance,” she stated, highlighting the psychological effect of the penalty rounds on her performance.

Despite the setbacks, Bátovská Fialková remains committed to improvement. She confided in public media, “I have a clear conscience. With the shooting coach we did everything we could. I felt good about the championships. Probably he was misleading,” suggesting a potential disconnect during training.

Franziska Preuss: It feels amazing! This is my first individual gold at the World Championships, and my tenth medal overall. It’s a dream come true, and all the hard work has definitely paid off.

Franziska Preuss: I felt good from the start, and I knew I had the potential to win. But you never know what will happen in a race of this caliber.You have to stay focused and give it your all until the very end.

Franziska Preuss: My focus was on steady shooting and strong skiing. I knew I had to minimize penalties and push hard on the hills. I was able to stick to my plan, and it paid off.
