En 2023, le cancer, une maladie redoutable, a causé 162 000 décès. Face à cette réalité, la recherche joue un rôle crucial dans la lutte contre ce fléau. L’Institut National du Cancer (INCA) se donne pour mission d’illuminer le monde fascinant de la recherche contre le cancer et d’entendre les histoires des chercheurs qui œuvrent chaque jour pour améliorer les traitements.

Un podcast pour un accès direct à la recherche

À travers sa nouvelle série de podcasts “Parlons recherche contre le cancer”, l’INCA souhaite sensibiliser le public aux recherches menées et aux avancées réalisées. Les quatre épisodes de 15 minutes environ, réalisés en collaboration avec l’entreprise de production de podcasts mediameeting, allient reportage et témoignages pour offrir un regard privilégié sur le travail des chercheurs.

“La lutte contre les cancers ne peut avancer sans la recherche et l’engagement quotidien de ceux qui y participent,” souligne l’INCA dans un communiqué. “que ce soit fondamentale, translationnelle, clinique ou dans les sciences humaines et sociales, la recherche reste centrale pour promouvoir l’innovation thérapeutique et médicale au bénéfice des patients.”

Des exemples concrets de recherche révolutionnaire

Le podcast propose un voyage à travers des projets de recherche soutenus par l’INCA.Chaque année, l’INCA finance plus de 170 projets de recherche, ce qui représente plus de 60% de son budget. Les premiers épisodes mettent en lumière des chercheurs qui examinent les liens potentiels entre les additifs alimentaires et le risque de cancer, ainsi que des spécialistes du gustave Roussy Institute qui étudient le déplacement des cellules cancéreuses dans le corps, notamment dans le cadre du cancer colorectal, afin de trouver un moyen d’en arrêter la migration. Les cancers pédiatriques ne sont pas oubliés, avec un épisode consacré aux thérapies ciblées contre une leucémie rare chez l’enfant. Enfin, le dernier épisode explore l’espoir suscité par le vaccin anticancéreux UCPVAX, conçu pour stimuler les défenses immunitaires du patient contre sa propre tumeur.

“Thank you for having me. Currently, my team and I are investigating cell migration in cancer, particularly focusing on colorectal cancer. We’re trying to understand how cancer cells move within the body and identifying potential targets to stop this process.”

“Yes, I was delighted to participate in their podcast. The INCA does an excellent job of communicating research findings to the public, and I believe this series will help demystify what we do in the lab. My episode focuses on our research into cell migration, and we discuss how understanding this process could perhaps help treat cancer.”

What do you think about the INCA’s focus on supporting and communicating research?

“I think it’s vital. Research is the backbone of progress in cancer treatment,and it’s crucial for the public to understand this. The INCA’s efforts in funding projects and creating platforms like this podcast series help raise awareness and engagement. In my opinion, every cancer research institute should aspire to do more of this.”

What’s one key message you hope listeners take away from your episode?

“That cancer research is a complex, collaborative endeavor. It takes time, dedication, and cooperation among scientists, clinicians, and even the public. And every small step forward brings us closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a future where cancer is no longer a major threat.”

what does the future hold for cancer research and treatment?

“I’m optimistic. We’re seeing promising results from immune therapies, targeted treatments, and even potential advances like cancer vaccines.The key is ongoing research, funding, and collaboration.Ultimately, I believe we can conquer cancer, not through one big breakthrough, but through many smaller steps forward.”
