A University of Bath student is defying all odds in the motorsport world. Stephanie Hobeika is making a name for herself after returning to competitive racing just months after fracturing her spine. Her story is one of resilience, determination, and a burning passion for motorsport.

The karting O-Plate race in Dubai last January brought a major setback. A kart behind crashed, landing on top of her and fracturing her spine.
The injury forced her to take a break from racing, focusing on rest and recovery. “I couldn’t do a lot; I had to rest and go to the gym. It was really boring,” she recalls.
The time away from the track was difficult.hobeika missed the thrill of racing. Her determination to return fueled her recovery.
Fully recovered, Hobeika made a seamless transition from karting to car racing. Her third-place finish in the Class C category of the 750 Motor Club Radical Club Challenge at Brands Hatch marked a triumphant return.
“I’ve been karting competitively for a few years now… but I felt it was time to take the next step,” Hobeika said.
“The big goal for next year would be to race in F1 Academy,” she added, setting her sights on the prestigious all-female championship that races alongside F1 events.
Formula Student & Motorsport Management
Beyond her personal racing ambitions, Hobeika serves as the program manager for Team Bath Racing Electric. This is the Formula Student racing team based at the university’s faculty of engineering and design.
Her involvement with Formula Student was a key factor in her decision to attend Bath. “I loved Bath and the university, so getting to work in motorsport with formula Student too was the perfect fit,” she explained.
