“The union and the company do not comment”: Stelltis-Dundee Engine worker supports independent examination of the death of Ronald Adams Sr.

Breaking News: Independent Investigation Launched into Fatal Accident at Dundee Engine Complex

Dundee, Michigan — Eleven weeks after the tragic accident that claimed the life of Ronald Adams Sr., a respected 63-year-old mechanic, his family and colleagues are still seeking answers. Adams lost his life on April 7, 2025, when a crane malfunctioned, crushing him against an assembly line at the Dundee Engine Complex in Michigan.

Family and Colleagues Demand Answers

Since the incident, the family of Ronald Adams Sr. and his colleagues have not received a clear explanation from the company, the United Auto Workers (UAW), or the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). MIOSHA spokesperson Mike Krafcik confirmed that the investigation is ongoing but provided no new information.

Independent Examination by IWA-RFC

In mid-May, the International Workers’ Alliance of the Action Committee (IWA-RFC) initiated an independent examination of the fatal accident. Workers from Dundee have been testifying, with their names changed to protect them from potential reprisals by the company and the UAW.

Shawn, a worker with 18 years of experience, expressed his support for the independent examination: “It’s terrible what happened to Ron. I hope we can get to the bottom of what happened and at least do something for this family.” He added, “The union and the company say nothing, nothing at all. They drive up the production, but nobody says what Ron was killed for.”

Worker Testimonies

Shawn also highlighted the lack of safety measures before the accident: “Before Ron’s death, we saw that people go into the machines and work without being switched off. I told the people: ‘Hey, makes the damn machine, that’s not worth it.’ The union should not be bordered up or up, but I know what they do, but in reality, they don’t do anything.”

He continued, “The security officer of the union was there immediately after Ron’s death. I hadn’t seen him for a long time.” Tom Zimmerman, the former chairman of the UAW local association 723, was appointed as a security officer after being voted out by the workers for not addressing safety concerns.

Workers Rally for Change

In the last few days, supporters of the IWA-RFC have promoted an independent examination and distributed hundreds of flyers to workers in various complexes, including Jeep in Toledo, Dana Gear in Toledo, the Ford Rouge complex in Dearborn, and the Stellantis truck plant in Detroit. A worker from Toledo, who knew Antonio Gaston, another victim who died in a similar accident eight months prior, expressed her support for the investigation.

The IWA-RFC is encouraging workers to participate in establishing action committees to take control of safety and production. Workers are urged to fill out a form to contribute to the investigation and ensure that such tragedies do not occur again.

Evergreen Context: The Importance of Workplace Safety

Workplace safety is a critical issue that affects millions of workers globally. According to the International Labour Organization, over 2.78 million workers die each year from occupational accidents or work-related diseases. Ensuring proper safety measures and holding companies accountable is essential to reducing these numbers.
