Record-Breaking Heat Hits Rennes
This won’t come as a surprise to anyone—June 2025 has been a scorcher in Rennes. As the department of
Ille-et-Vilaine is once again placed under heat wave alert by Météo France, meteorologist Sébastien Decaux
reveals the preliminary assessment of the month’s weather.
“Since the beginning of the month, Rennes temperatures have crossed the 30°C threshold six days. The 35°C
mark was exceeded twice,” notes Decaux from Météo Bretagne. “Two nights were tropical, with temperatures
remaining above 20°C.”
Precipitation Deficit
While final statistics are expected by Sunday and Monday, one thing is clear: June 2025 will go down as an
extremely hot month in Rennes.
The maximum monthly average temperature for June 2025 stands at 26.1°C, significantly higher than the standard
of 22.6°C for maximums in Rennes. Furthermore, only 16 millimeters of precipitation were recorded at the Rennes-Saint-Jacques
station this month. This is far below the usual 51 millimeters for the month, marking a 56% deficit over the past four months.
Drought Vigilance
As a reminder, the department of Ille-et-Vilaine was placed in drought vigilance by prefectural decree. If it rains,
the meteorologist assures that the rain will be most welcome.
