In a significant step towards enhancing the education system, the Ministry of National Education and its technical and financial partners (PTF) convened a round table on Friday in Dakar. The meeting underscored a new vision for a more inclusive and coordinated approach focused on students’ needs, signaling a potential transformation in the educational landscape.

The Minister of National Education, Moustapha Guirassy, expressed enthusiasm for the gathering, noting that it was a historic moment. “This is the first meeting of its kind, with technical and financial partners who actively support our efforts to transform the education sector,” he said.

“We aim to move towards more inclusive governance that is better coordinated and centered on the student.”

According to Guirassy, coordination between multiple stakeholders is a key challenge. “The system involves several players, both at the central and decentralized levels, who need better coordination for more effective and impactful results,” he added.

Data and Information as the Backbone of Successful Reform

The minister stressed the importance of data access for effective reform. “Good governance and coordination require updated data. We face persistent delays in data collection, which hampers progress,” Guirassy said.

To address this, stakeholders aim to leverage innovative approaches, ensuring timely data collection and analysis to support decision-making processes.

A Visionary Agenda Inspired by 2050 Goals

Central to the agenda is a commitment to building “an inclusive, equitable, and future-ready school that trains citizens deeply rooted in African values while being prepared for digital, scientific, and sustainable development challenges.”

This lofty vision aligns with broader international goals and provides a framework for partnerships, both locally and globally.

Global Partners Endorse the Initiative

Albert Ewodo Ekani, representing UNICEF, praised the initiative. “This meeting is crucial to strengthening dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders to effectively support Senegal’s national 2050 transformation agenda,” he said.

The support from international organizations signals a positive outlook for collaborative efforts in achieving educational goals.
