Breaking News: Sahra Wagenknecht’s BSW Aims to Become Germany’s ‘Only Peace Party’

BERLIN – In a groundbreaking move, the alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has declared its intention to position itself as the “only peace party in Germany.” This announcement was made during a closed conference held on Sunday in Berlin, where a position paper was decided upon.

Criticism of NATO’s Five Percent Goal

The BSW’s position paper states that NATO’s five percent goal will “destroy the welfare state and drive our economy even deeper into the crisis.” Party founder Sahra Wagenknecht emphasized that there is “no real opposition” in the Bundestag against “the greatest upgrade in the history of the Federal Republic.”

Support for SPD’s Manifesto

The BSW has expressed support for the manifesto of SPD politicians around Rolf Mützenich, which calls for a fundamental reversal in foreign and security policy. This manifesto, published two and a half weeks ago, has been seen as open criticism of the SPD party leadership and has garnered approximately a hundred signatories.

Expansion Plans

The BSW aims to be represented in all East German state parliaments by the end of 2026 and intends to move into the Bundestag with a strong parliamentary group by 2029. Currently, the BSW is ruling in Brandenburg and Thuringia but fell short of the five percent hurdle in the Bundestag election in February.

Government Participation Strategy

The BSW is not entirely satisfied with its current government participations in the states. “In the future, we have to be better able to identify our profile in coalitions and to achieve really noticeable changes for people,” the party stated. Government participation only makes sense “when people experience that the BSW makes a difference.”

State Parliament Goals

The BSW aims to enter the state parliaments of Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Berlin in the 2026 elections. The party has not set this goal for the state elections scheduled for next year in the West German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The closed conference took place on Saturday and Sunday with the party executive, the state chairpersons, and MEPs in Berlin.

As Germany’s political landscape continues to evolve, the BSW’s ambitious plans and critical stance on NATO’s budget goals could significantly impact the upcoming elections and the future of German politics. Stay tuned to archyde.com for the latest updates on this developing story.
