German Footballers Arrive in Zurich for European Championship

The German national football team has arrived in Zurich, their base camp for the upcoming European Championship, brimming with optimism and eager to begin their campaign. “We’ve been waiting for this moment for so long,” said Linda Dallmann, an offensive player from FC Bayern Munich.

The team, coached by Christian Wück and accompanied by their 23 players, has settled into a luxury hotel near Uetliberg, just a few kilometers from Lake Zurich and the city center. Their first match in the tournament takes place on Friday evening at 9:00 p.m. against Poland, broadcasted live on ARD. Other ground matches include Denmark on July 8th in Basel and Sweden on July 12th in Zurich.

Dallmann highlighted the team’s exceptional physical condition following intense preparations in Herzogenaurach. She emphasized, “The team is physically at a very good level. There were also many good things there. I think we are exactly where we wanted to be.” Defender Rebecca Knaak concurred, stating that rigorous field training had instilled a new sense of security within the team.

With a clear focus on becoming European champions, Dallmann was unequivocal about the team’s aspirations. “My goal is to become European champion, and I think the other girls feel the same way. We are here for that. Anything else would be wrong.”

Recently, the German women’s team has shown remarkable form, winning 4-0 against the Netherlands and a resounding 6-0 against Austria in the Nations League. Their performance has positioned them among the favorites for the tournament.

The European Championship officially kicks off on Wednesday with the game between Switzerland and Norway in Basel. The first match, however, takes place three hours earlier in Thun with Iceland facing Finland.
