Vegas Golden Knights Expand Hockey Horizons with Summer Clinics for Youngsters
Breaking News: July 15, 2023 – Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas, NV – The Vegas Golden Knights, the city’s beloved NHL team, are continuing their mission to grow hockey across the Valley with an unprecedented array of summer ball hockey clinics. Even as the hockey season winds down, the Golden Knights Foundation, alongside partners Raising Cane’s Chickn Fingers and Green Valley Grocery, is sustaining the momentum by introducing the sport to over 2000 children at various community centers throughout Las Vegas.
Community Engagement and Outreach
From Boys and Girls Clubs to the Nellis Air Base, the Golden Knights are visiting community centers across Las Vegas. Coordinated by Sheri Hudspeth, director of youth hockey programs, and her dedicated team of coaches, the clinics introduce kids to the basics of hockey – stick handling, passing, shooting, and defense.
“It’s very exciting for the children. They love the Golden Knights. They’ve done an incredible job visiting the Valley and the city,” says Kristen Carducci, coordinator of the Cimarron Rose Community Center. The anticipation among kids and parents has been palpable, with many eagerly awaiting the Knights’ arrival.
The Impact and Vision
Allie Emery, coordinator of Community Relations and the VGK Foundation, highlights the significance of these initiatives. “Many of these children will never have the opportunity to play hockey. By reaching out to them, we offer a creative outlet and expand their horizons.”
The clinics are designed not only to teach hockey but to excite and inspire. Each session combines fun and learning, led by professional coaches and players, including fish and Las Vegas Vivas, who engage the kids in both instruction and play.
“The best thing about these clinics is seeing the children’s smiles,” Emery adds. “The competitiveness, engagement, and laughter are what make a difference. Our goal is to put as many hockey sticks into as many hands as possible, fostering a lifelong love for the sport.”
