World, July 11, 2025 (ATB Digital) — A music teacher in Canada was sentenced on Wednesday to four years in prison for sexually abusing a minor student, as reported by local media.
According to a declaration read in court, Nicole Macleod, 37, began communicating with a 15-year-old student through social networks. Although the student was not her current pupil, he attended the same school in Tatamagoucher, Nova Scotia, where she taught. The relationship evolved into a more personal and sexual context.
In June 2024, Macleod practiced oral sex on the young man and subsequently rented an accommodation through Airbnb where they had sex. That same month, she was arrested and placed on probation. However, she violated the prohibition by continuing to contact the student, leading to a new arrest in November and pretrial detention.
Macleod, who suffers from mental health issues, admitted to the crimes and pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual aggression. On June 9, she expressed remorse for the trauma she caused to the victim, who is currently undergoing therapy. In addition to the prison sentence, she is banned from approaching the victim for 10 years and is prohibited from working with or having contact with children under the age of 16. She is also barred from using social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat during this period.
