“This will go a long way toward helping us,” Christensen stated, acknowledging the notable impact of the contribution.
The Power of a Wish
Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, established in 1984, has granted over 8,800 wishes to date, with more than 450 fulfilled in the past year alone. Operating on a $9 million budget in 2024, the organization allocates 79% of donations directly to wish fulfillment, 7% to administrative costs, and 14% to fundraising efforts.
While trips to Disney remain a popular wish (accounting for approximately 70%), Make-A-Wish strives to personalize each experience to the individual child’s passions, ranging from zoo adventures to outdoor pursuits like hunting trips. Research indicates that fulfilling a wish can provide children with renewed strength and hope in their fight against illness.
“I’ve seen kids come back from a wish completely transformed,” Christensen shared. “It’s not just the kids – their siblings are part of it too.”
A Personal Connection
The Pok-A-Snoz Snowmobile/ATV Club’s support is especially poignant for member Bill Glodowski, whose late son, Jesse, was a previous wish recipient. Glodowski emphasized the profound difference the experience made for his family, stating simply, “It’s worth it.”
This year’s donation of $5,576.05 marks a continued commitment from the club, building on a $5,056 donation made in 2024, representing the first time the club contributed to an outside organization.
Urgent Need & How to Help
Make-A-Wish Wisconsin reports that a child in the state is diagnosed with a critical illness every 20 minutes. Currently, three children are waiting for every wish that is granted, highlighting the ongoing need for support.
Christensen,a retired Wausau School District employee who began volunteering with Make-A-Wish nine years ago, extended an invitation to club members to join her on future wish fulfillments. “If you ever want to come with me on a wish, it will change your life,” she said.
