Jakarta – The world of anime and tokusatsu mourns the loss of Nobuo Yamada, known to fans as NOB, the legendary vocalist behind the opening theme song for the global hit anime “Saint Seiya.” He passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 61, after a long battle with kidney cancer.

The news was confirmed by his agency, Mojost, who announced his passing on August 13, 2025. NOB had bravely fought the disease for years, facing a previous diagnosis of brain tumors in April 2024.

NOB’s impact on the anime scene is undeniable.His soaring vocals on “Pegasus Fantasy” became an anthem for a generation. His work extended far beyond “Saint Seiya,” with contributions to numerous anime and tokusatsu series, including “Mahou Sentai Magiranger,” “Gogo sentai Boukenger,” “Tensou Sentai goseiger,” and “Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.” He also made an Armour Zone song for kamen Rider Amazons (2016) and had collaboration with Taro Kobayashi at eat ‘Kill All (2018).

Even near the end of his life, NOB remained dedicated to his craft, discussing future song arrangements and performing plans.The agency said he remained a “rocker NOB” until his final days.

A private funeral will be held at the family’s request. A public memorial event is planned to honor his life and career.
