Trump Criticizes Brazil as Poor Commercial Partner in Latin America

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, defined Brazil a “terrible commercial partner” and has boiled the trial against former president Jair Bolsonaro as a “political execution”.

Responding to journalists to the White House on duties and relationships between Latin America and China, Trump said that “Brazil was a bad commercial partner in terms of duties – as you know, they charge us enormous duties, much, much higher than those that we charge them indeed, basically, we were not even imposing on it”.

According to the US President, the Brazilians apply “huge duties and make everything very difficult to do”, while “now they are burdened by 50% of duties and are not happy, but that’s how it works. They treated us badly as a commercial partners for many, many years, one of the worst countries of the world”.

Finally, Trump reiterated his support in Bolsonaro, under house arrest from 4 August by order of the judge of the Brazilian Supreme Court Alexandre de Moraes. “I know this man (Bolsonaro, ed) and I will tell you, I am good at evaluating people: I think he is an honest man,” he said, adding that, in his opinion, the process “is really a political execution”.
