Meadville, PA – December 3, 2025 – Allegheny college is set to make history as a founding member of the nation’s largest collegiate women’s flag football league, launching in Spring 2026. The groundbreaking initiative is sponsored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), the New York Jets, and the Betty wold Johnson Foundation (BWJF), fueled by a $1 million grant from the BWJF.

the new 15-team league will feature institutions from across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, including fellow Presidents’ Athletic conference (PAC) member Franciscan University and nearby Mercyhurst University. Other participating schools span Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. A full list of participating institutions is included below.

The league’s formation comes at a pivotal moment for the sport, as the NCAA considers recognizing flag football as a championship sport. Haynie herself brings a wealth of experience to the program, having previously played professionally for the Pittsburgh Passion. I never thought I would be a professional football player and now a coach.”
