Breaking: Norwegian Biathlete Sivert Bakken Found dead in Lavaze Hotel

Lavaze, Italy – December 24, 2025 – Norwegian biathlete Sivert Guttorm Bakken has been found dead in his hotel room in lavaze. The cause of death remains unknown, with officials saying details are not yet clear.

The International Biathlon Union confirmed the death after it was reported by Italian authorities. IBU President Olle Dahlin expressed shock at the loss and praised Bakken’s resilience and his return to form after health problems.

Bakken, 27, earned his first World Cup victory in the 15-kilometre mass start at Oslo Holmenkollen in 2022. He had battled heart problems after the 2021-2022 season but returned to competition on the World Cup circuit in recent weeks.

He competed in a World Cup event at Le Grand Bornand in France over the weekend,finishing 13th in this season’s overall standings. NRK,Norway’s public broadcaster,reported he had travelled to Lavaze for a high-altitude training camp when he died.

In a tribute, Dahlin said: “Sivert’s comeback after a challenging period was a source of immense joy for the biathlon community.”

Teammate Sturla Holm Laegreid paid tribute on social media, calling Bakken “one of the toughest” and highlighting his ability to push through adversity.
