EMMITSBURG, Md.— Mount St. Mary’s University kicks off its 2026 swimming and diving calendar with a Friday dual meet against American University in Washington, D.C.,signaling the start of a season packed with conference action and showcase events for both programs.

At the ECAC Winter Championships in New York, Mount st. Mary’s swimmers delivered standout performances as the season’s early momentum carried into the ECAC podium scene. Freshman Adam Jozsa lit up the pool, shattering the Mount’s record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a finals time of 2:00.35, good for fourth place. The West Vancouver, British columbia native eclipsed the prior school benchmark of 2:00.67, set by Aidan Grady at the 2023 MAAC Championships.

On the women’s side, the trio of Christina Lazari, Carmen Del Aguila, and Theodora Kanellopoulou dominated the 100-yard freestyle. Lazari touched first in 51.21 seconds, coming within two-tenths of the school mark, while Del Aguila finished second in 51.59 and Kanellopoulou took fourth in 51.74. The Mount women also claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:26.18, with Madison Murphy joining Lazari, Del Aguila, and Kanellopoulou to complete the victorious quartet.

Other notable performances included Todor gospodinov finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:46.64, and Hanna Aggen placing second in the women’s 200 backstroke at 2:04.96.Liam Rooney added a fifth-place showing in the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:52.98.

Collectively, the Mount St. Mary’s men’s and women’s teams each finished fourth in the team standings at the ECAC meet, underscoring depth across events and promising early-season momentum for the dual meet against American University.
