saint Peter, Minnesota – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s Tennis team launched their 2026 season with a decisive 6-1 victory over Minnesota State University-Mankato on Saturday. The nationally ranked No. 20 Gusties showcased their prowess against the NCAA Division II Mavericks, establishing a strong foundation for their upcoming campaign.This win underscores the growing prominence of collegiate women’s tennis, a sport experiencing increased participation and viewership nationwide.
Doubles Dominance Sets the Tone
The Gusties seized early control by sweeping all three doubles matches. Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn delivered a commanding 6-2 performance in the No. 1 position. Molly Austin and Lanie Davis followed suit, securing a 6-3 win at the No.2 slot. Ella De Young and Allison Szalay completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 triumph in the No. 3 match, giving Gustavus a 1-0 lead.
Singles Play Solidifies the Victory
Kaya De Bruijn continued her strong start to the season,powering to a 6-1,6-3 victory in the No.2 singles match. Though, Minnesota State responded with a win in the No. 1 singles, taking the match 7-5, 6-1. Undeterred, Lanie Davis regained the momentum for Gustavus, securing a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

With the team score at 3-1, Molly Austin delivered a critical performance, winning her No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3. This victory clinched the fourth point for Gustavus, sealing the overall team win.
