Nantes Reject €7M Guirassy Bid: Transfer News & Future Outlook

by

FC Nantes rejected a €7 million bid from Club Brugge for winger Herba Guirassy last summer, according to reports from French journalist Emmanuel Merceron shared on X (formerly Twitter). The rejection signals Nantes’ intent to retain the 19-year-old player, despite the financial pressures common to Ligue 1 clubs.

The decision to hold onto Guirassy came during a summer transfer window marked by departures at Nantes. Club Brugge’s offer was deemed insufficient to part with the promising talent. Interest from other European clubs also surfaced in the winter transfer window, with Real Sociedad of Spain and Ajax Amsterdam of the Netherlands reportedly making inquiries, though neither club was able to reach an agreement with Nantes’ management.

Nantes also explored potential player-plus-cash deals, including one involving Othmane Maamma, a young attacker from Watford. However, Watford reportedly turned down the proposal, which included a reported valuation of around €5 million plus bonuses for Guirassy.

Guirassy, who joined Nantes in July 2024, has a contract with the club through June 30, 2028, having recently extended his contract in November 2024. He has featured in 21 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals. Transfermarkt currently values Guirassy at €6.00 million as of December 15, 2025.

The situation highlights a dual strategy for Nantes: capitalizing on the increasing market value of its young players while attempting to maintain a competitive squad. However, the club’s current position in the Ligue 1 relegation zone introduces a significant variable. Should Nantes be relegated to Ligue 2, retaining Guirassy would become considerably more difficult, though the club could still command a substantial fee for the player, potentially around €6 million, according to Transfermarkt’s valuation.
