Colorado Olympians Compete in Snowboard Cross & Alpine Skiing at 2026 Winter Games

LIVIGNO & CORTINA, Italy – The 2026 Winter Olympic Games continued Sunday with competition from two Colorado athletes, Stacy Gaskill and Cass Gray, in snowboard cross and alpine skiing, respectively. While both faced challenges in their events, the Olympic schedule is rapidly approaching its final week, with several more Colorado athletes poised to compete.

Stacy Gaskill, representing Team USA in the mixed team snowboard cross event at the Livigno Snow Park, teamed with Nathan Pare. The mixed team format saw the men compete first to establish a time gap, with Pare delivering a strong opening run, finishing just .08 seconds behind the heat leader. Despite a promising start, Gaskill caught an edge during her run and fell, unfortunately preventing the U.S. Team from advancing beyond the quarterfinal round, according to reporting from Colorado University Athletics.

In Cortina d’Ampezzo, Cass Gray competed in the women’s giant slalom at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Center, her primary event of the Olympic program. Gray encountered difficulties midway through her run, battling to regain control before ultimately falling and not finishing the course. The setbacks for both athletes highlight the intense competition and demanding conditions at the Winter Olympics.

Colorado Athletes Set to Compete This Week

The Olympic schedule offers further opportunities for Colorado athletes in the coming days. On Wednesday, Hugo Hinckfuss is scheduled to participate in the cross-country team freestyle sprint, with Jakob Moch potentially joining him. Former Buff Joanne Reid will represent Team USA in the women’s 4x6K biathlon relay. The final Colorado athlete slated to compete is Svea Irving, who will begin freestyle halfpipe qualifying on Thursday.

Gaskill, a Winter Park snowboarder, has been aiming for a breakthrough performance at the Olympics, having previously reached the semifinal heat at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. She described the biggest obstacle to consistent success as gaining more experience in heat racing, stating she feels “right on the edge, ready to break through,” according to a recent interview with Sky-Hi News. Gaskill also enjoyed the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan, Italy, as documented on her Instagram account.

Gaskill’s Olympic Journey and Past Performances

According to her official Olympic profile, Stacy Gaskill was born on May 21, 2000, and competes with a regular stance. She has a history of strong performances, including a 7th-place finish in Women’s Snowboard Cross at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and a 6th-place finish in Women’s Snowboard Cross at the 2021 World Championships in Idre Fjaell, Sweden. Her World Cup standings demonstrate consistent improvement, currently ranked 10th in Snowboard Cross for the 2025/2026 season.

Gray’s performance follows a pattern of challenges for Colorado athletes at these games. While the U.S. Team continues to compete, the road to the podium remains difficult. The upcoming events offer opportunities for redemption and potential medal contention as the games draw to a close.

As the Olympic schedule progresses, all eyes will be on Hinckfuss, Reid, and Irving as they represent Colorado and the United States on the world stage. The coming days promise further excitement and compelling competition as athletes strive for Olympic glory.
